Beware of New Scam Tactics in Habbo: Fake NFT Giveaway Rooms
A new scam tactic is targeting Habbo players, and it’s crucial to stay vigilant!
Scammers are using fake rooms that appear in the “Most Popular” list on the Navigator to lure unsuspecting players into phishing attempts. Here’s everything you need to know about this scam and how to protect your Collectibles and Habbo account.
How the Scam Works
Recently, scammers have been creating rooms with enticing names like “Win a Christmas NFT” and flood them with bots to artificially boost their popularity. This tricks players into thinking the rooms are legitimate. Once inside, these rooms display messages promoting unsafe links that claim to offer free NFT giveaways.
However, these links are phishing attempts designed to:
- Steal your Habbo account credentials.
- Access your Habbo Collectibles or other NFTs by tricking you into signing fraudulent MetaMask contracts.
Why It’s Dangerous
The scam plays on the excitement around NFTs and free giveaways. But remember: if it sounds too good to be true, it likely is. Clicking on these unsafe links or signing unknown MetaMask contracts can result in losing access to your account and valuable Collectibles that you’ve spent your hard earned money on. Don’t become a victim!
How to Stay Safe
Follow these tips to protect yourself:
- Be cautious of rooms that suddenly appear at the top of the “Most Popular” list with giveaways or promotions that seem unrealistic.
- Never trust random links shared in Habbo rooms or by unknown users.
- If you’re unsure what a MetaMask contract entails, don’t sign it. Scammers often use players’ confusion of NFTs to their advantage.
- Only buy and sell Habbo Collectibles on the officially endorsed IMX market website, TokenTrove.com.
