Protect Yourself from Scammers on the Habbo Collectibles Discord
Scammers have been targeting the Habbo Collectibles Discord! Here’s what you need to know and how to protect yourself.
New Collectibles Scam Tactic
On September 19, 2024, Olsoweir, Sulake’s Communications Director and Habbo staff member, issued a warning in the Habbo Collectibles Discord about a new impersonator scam impacting the Collectibles community. These scammers have been posing as staff, moderators, Community Council members, and prominent players to deceive users and steal their Collectibles by private messaging Habbos with a fake Discord account.
Remember: Always be cautious when receiving messages on Discord, especially from people you don’t recognize or those pretending to be someone they’re not.
How to Stay Safe
The best way to protect yourself is to turn off direct messages (DMs) in the Collectibles server. This prevents scammers from contacting you directly.
Follow these steps to disable DMs on Discord:
- Click on the server name at the top of the channel list.
- Select Privacy Settings from the dropdown menu (see first screenshot).
- Toggle off the Direct Messages option to block DMs from other server members (see second screenshot).
Why This Matters
Disabling DMs ensures scammers can’t reach out to you directly, making it much harder for them to target you with impersonation tactics. Always verify the identity of anyone contacting you through official channels, and remember that legitimate Habbo staff or moderators will never ask for your Collectibles or to trade via an unknown, third party platform.
