Wired Basics: Selectors

Writer: GTECH6

Introduction

In this article, you will learn what Wired Selectors do and how to use them in your room. You will also learn a few useful examples.
If you’re looking for information on a specific selector, head to the “List of Selectors” table at the end of this article. Filter Boxes are also covered in this article.

What is a Wired Selector?

Selectors can change who and what furni gets affected by wired. They are a new addition to the hotel, and their main purpose is to allow builders to wire more efficiently. If you ever attempted wiring a big game before the selectors existed and gave up, you can now rest easy.

Selectors can be used for purposes such as teleporting an entire area of avatars somewhere else, within just one stack. You can also use selectors to manipulate furniture by furni type, or by whatever is on top of another furni in the moment of wired activation, etc. There are many possibilities, so take a look below!

Filter/Invert Options

No Filter
By default, when you add multiple selectors, they act as individual selections.
This means that the switch will toggle anything inside the enclosure, as well as any glow balls in the room in general.

With Filter (2nd Selection)
When you add multiple selectors and filter one of them, they will recognize each other, allowing for more fine tuning.
This means that unlike the first gif, the wired will only select the filtered furni type inside the selected area.
In this case, only the glow balls within the enclosure will be toggled.

Invert (1st Selection) + Filter (2nd Selection)
When you invert the “Furni in Area” selection while the “Furni By Type” selection remains filtered, the wired will toggle any glow balls outside of the enclosure.

Invert (1st Selection) + No Filter (2nd Selection)
When you invert the “Furni in Area” selection while the “Furni by Type” selection is NOT filtered, you can get funky results…
We recommend testing inverted selectors in empty rooms, unless you know what you’re doing.

Examples

Trigger: Furni is Used + Selector: Users in Area + Effect: Teleport to Furni (User Source set to “Users from Selector”)

Trigger: Furni is Used + Effect: Toggle Furni State + Condition: Has Furni On
(All the pressure plates need furni on top of them, in order for the user to open the gate)

1st Stack

2nd Stack

Trigger: Furni is Used

  • Set to switch

Selector: Furni on Furni

  • Set to pressure plate

  • Select “Furni above furni”

Effect: Send Signal

  • Select antenna

Trigger: Receive Signal

  • Set to antenna

Selector: Furni by Type

  • Select furni source: Use furni from Signal

Selector: Furni in Area

  • Filter? Yes

Effect: Set Furni Altitude (x2)

  • First effect to increase altitude by 1.00

  • Second effect to set altitude to 0.00 after 1s delay

  • Set both effects’ furni source to “Use furni from Selector”

Selector Name

Description

Furni in Area

Selects any furni within a rectangle area. The area can be drawn.

In order to make more complex area shapes, add additional “Furni in Area” selectors to the stack and draw the area that still needs to be covered.

Furni in Neighborhood

Selects any furni in close range of a user or another furni. The range can be drawn.

Furni by Type

Selects furni in the room that matches a selected furni.

Furni with Altitude

Selects furni with matching altitude.

Furni On Furni

Selects furni on top of a selected furni.

Furni Picks

Selects the furni manually selected by you.

Example: Useful if you want to use one specific red circle out of 100 other red circles for different wired effects.

Furni from Signal

Selects the furni transmitted to the stack through antenna signal.

Users in Area

Selects users within a rectangle area. The area can be drawn.

Users in Neighborhood

Selects any users in close range of a furni or another user. The range can be drawn.

Users by Type

Selects users matching a specific avatar type: Bot, User, Pet.

Users from Signal

Selects the users transmitted to the stack through antenna signal.

Users in Team

Selects users in a team.

Users by Action

Selects users currently performing a specific action.

Users by Name

Selects users matching specific usernames.

Users on Furni

Selects users on furni.

Users with Handitem

Selects users with a specific handitem.

Users in Group

Selects users who belong to a specific group.

Filter to X Users

Restricts the number of users affected by a selector.

Example: If you have 20 users in an area and want to teleport 10 of them to another place without bias, the filter can be set to 10 users.

Filter to X Furni

Restricts the number of furni affected by a selector.

Example: If you have 20 furni in an area and want to use wired to move just 5 of them into your Falling Furni arena, the filter can be set to 5 furni.

Furni With Variable

Selects furni with a specific variable.

You can also pick furni with a specific variable value. Math operators are supported.

Users With Variable

Selects furni with a specific variable.

You can also pick users with a specific variable value. Math operators are supported.

Remote selection

Selects the contents of other selectors.

This eliminates the need for wiring multiple selectors with the same contents.

The Union setting (default) combines the amount of selected furni/users into one group. For example, if the 1st selector has 5 furni and the 2nd selector has 10 furni, the grand total will be 15 furni.

The Intersection setting compares provided selectors and uses only the furni/users that are present in both.

For example, if the 1st selector has users A, B, C and the 2nd selector has users B, C, D, the final selection will be B and C.

Users with Highest/Lowest Variable

Restricts the number of users affected by the Users with Variable selector.

Has multiple sorting methods.

Furni with Highest/Lowest Variable

Restricts the number of furni affected by the Furni with Variable selector.

Has multiple sorting methods.
